While the Media & Entertainment sector is witnessing growth across all segments, what’s interesting is the exponential growth in the regional channels. It is forcing organisations to become more adept at managing increasing cultural diversity. As a result, there is an increased focus on building extraordinary workplaces that act as magnets for talent. The perspectives on talent are shifting today, and speaking English is no longer the arbiter for an individual. Moreover, increasing digitalisation is radically changing the way internal services within an organisation are delivered. Developing and ensuring cohesive employee experiences are becoming increasingly critical for companies.
2. How has the role of HR evolved over the years in your sector?
The role of an HR is evolving from being just an ‘administrator’ of a workplace to becoming the lead designer of the workplace. Given how critical human capital innovation and creativity are within this sector, organisations are substantially investing into building internal capabilities to enhance the delivery capability and integrate the function to form a core part of the strategy of the company.
3. How is digital disruption changing the Human Resource sector? What are these disruptions in your industry?
Digitisation is acting as a disruptor in almost every aspect of the business today. With new age tools and technology, the processing of transactions will increasingly get automated and digitised. As a result, it will make the HR professionals independent to move into higher order roles.
4. What are the challenges in the HR industry?
While largely the challenges remain similar across sectors, creating a more effective talent supply ecosystem is the need of the hour. Developing the right strategy for identifying and developing future leaders at all levels will help companies align their talent development plans with their future leadership needs.
5. What is your outlook on skill gap that often becomes a challenge that needs to be tackled well by the L&D team?
There is a limited supply of quality talent in the industry. To address the skill gap, companies need to implement better employee training and development programs that facilitate the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next, develop new retention strategies, and look outside the traditional skill set to adapt to the evolving job requirements.
